India, May 11 -- A deadly hantavirus outbreak linked to a Dutch expedition cruise ship has triggered fresh health concerns worldwide, with many comparing the situation to the early days of Covid-19. Amid growing anxiety, a Goan chef working aboard the vessel has stepped forward to calm fears and dismiss rumours about a large-scale medical emergency on the ship.

The outbreak, connected to the Dutch-operated expedition vessel MV Hondius, reportedly left eight people ill and claimed three lives, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). As the ship continued its journey under medical monitoring, attention shifted to one of its crew members - Goa-born executive chef Khabir Moraes.
