India, April 14 -- Alexandre Ramagem, Brazil's former spy chief and a close ally of ex-president Jair Bolsonaro, was arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Monday after months as a fugitive in the United States. Ramagem had fled Brazil days before the country's Supreme Court sentenced him to 16 years in prison for his role in an attempted coup, making him the only member of Bolsonaro's cabinet not in custody.
The former federal police officer was convicted of turning the Brazilian intelligence agency into a clandestine counterintelligence unit used to illegally monitor officials seen as opponents of Bolsonaro.
