India, July 28 -- Ajaya Babu Valluri added another chapter to his family's Commonwealth Games story by winning the silver medal in the men's 79kg weightlifting event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Indian lifter finished with a combined total of 330kg, narrowly missing out on gold by just 1kg after Malaysia's E.H. Muhammad set a new Games record with 331kg. Ajaya impressed throughout the competition, opening with a 149kg snatch, which established a new Commonwealth Games record and put him in the lead before the clean and jerk.
