India, Aug. 13 -- Skywatchers across the Northern Hemisphere are set for a rare celestial double feature this week, as the Perseid meteor shower reaches its annual peak on the very same night a total solar eclipse sweeps across parts of Europe and the Arctic.

The Perseid meteor shower has been active since mid-July but is expected to peak overnight from Wednesday into Thursday. The International Meteor Organization places the nominal peak between 2am and 4am UTC on 13 August, according to The Watchers, while EarthSky puts the moment of maximum activity at 10.53am ET on Thursday.
