India, Oct. 30 -- Mount Mayon, one of the Philippines' most active volcanoes, erupted on Friday, sending a massive column of ash approximately 3,000 metres into the sky and prompting authorities to raise the volcano alert level. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised the alert level from 2 to 3 on its five-level scale and urged residents living within six kilometres of the crater to evacuate as a precaution.
