India, Aug. 5 -- For the first time in more than a decade, voters across Central Washington cast ballots on Tuesday without Congressman Dan Newhouse's name among the choices, closing out a race in which eleven candidates have spent months jostling to succeed him in one of the country's most reliably conservative House districts.

Newhouse, a farmer from Sunnyside who has represented Washington's 4th Congressional District since 2015, announced in December that he would not seek a seventh term, ending a run during which he championed hydropower interests, agricultural labour reform and restrictions on Chinese purchases of American farmland.
