India, July 18 -- A flash flood tore through a remote mountain village in northern Vietnam early Friday, killing at least four people, leaving four others missing and injuring seven, as days of relentless rain overwhelmed the country's mountainous north and triggered a cascade of landslides across the region.

The flood struck Muong Than village in Lai Chau province, according to the Vietnam News Agency, sweeping away homes and roads in a commune already battered by a week of torrential downpours. The hardest hit regions include Muong Than and Than Uyen communes in Lai Chau, alongside Ngoc Chien commune in Son La. Heavy rainfall triggered the torrents of floodwater to flow from mountains more than 1,000 m high down to the plains.
