India, Sept. 18 -- A new US sanctions law is now one presidential signature away from becoming a major new tool against countries that continue buying Russian energy. For India, the immediate concern is not a tariff that has already arrived, but the power Washington could soon have to impose additional duties on Indian goods.
The US House of Representatives approves the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 by 262-159 on September 16, following an 86-11 Senate vote in August. The legislation has now moved to President Donald Trump.
