US Russia Sanctions Bill: Why US Can Continue Some Russian Uranium Deals While India Faces Tariff Risk
India, Sept. 18 -- The US Russia Sanctions Bill has moved closer to becoming law after the US House of Representatives passed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 by 262-159 on September 16. The Senate had already approved the legislation 86-11 in August. The bill now awaits President Donald Trump's signature.
The legislation gives the US President authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries that continue buying Russian oil and gas under the bill's criteria. India and China are among the major buyers that could potentially be affected. Importantly, the 100% tariff is not automatic; it would depend on presidential action and the conditions set out in the legislation.
