India, Sept. 19 -- California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a new package of election-protection bills on Friday, creating new felonies for those who interfere with or politically meddle in the state's voting process, in the latest of a series of legislative moves aimed at shielding California's elections from the Trump administration ahead of November's midterm elections. The bill signing took place at the Democracy Center in Los Angeles, a site Newsom's office noted had been targeted by federal agents last year in what it described as an effort to politically intimidate California officials and the broader Los Angeles community.
