India, Sept. 8 -- The war in the Middle East is escalating and is sending fresh shockwaves through global energy and financial markets, with crude oil prices moving closer to the $ 100-a-barrel mark and investors growing increasingly concerned about supply disruptions. Brent crude has climbed toward $98 as traders assess the risk of a prolonged conflict and disruptions to key oil shipping routes.

The rise in oil prices is also weighing on Indian markets, with stocks opening lower after the previous session's sharp decline. At the same time, the global diesel market faces tighter supply heading into winter as limited refining capacity, restrictions on Russian exports and seasonal demand add to fuel market pressure.
