India, Aug. 16 -- The war in the Middle East is putting fresh pressure on American military operations and Iran's relations with Gulf countries.

US Central Command chief Adm. Brad Cooper has visited the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea after its unusually long deployment, while Tehran is demanding answers from Qatar over three missing pilots and preparing new measures for managing the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has also reached an understanding with Oman on coordinates for a new shipping route, although Tehran says that does not mean the strategic waterway will immediately reopen.
