India, Aug. 11 -- US-Israel-Iran War Latest News: The US-Iran war in the Middle East is hitting the Tehran's economy pretty hard. The standoff is becoming increasingly difficult for Tehran to contain as restrictions on maritime trade squeeze Iran's access to vital shipping routes. A senior Iranian trade official has warned that replacing sea routes with more expensive alternatives could add around $18 billion to the country's annual trade bill.
The warning comes as traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has dropped to only 6 vessels, a sharp decline from the more than 130 ships that typically used the waterway each day before the war. The slowdown is adding another layer of pressure to an already strained Iranian economy.
