India, Sept. 26 -- US President Donald Trump has rejected a seven-day proposal from Iran that sought to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restart nuclear negotiations with Washington.

The proposal, conveyed through Qatar, called for the US to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports, ease sanctions on Iranian oil exports and observe a ceasefire involving Lebanon. Iran would then reopen the strategic waterway and resume talks over its nuclear programme.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the plan would restore normal maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if Washington accepted the terms.
