India, Sept. 17 -- US President Donald Trump is preparing to meet leaders from Gulf countries on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with discussions expected to focus on the future of the war with Iran and plans for the period after the conflict.

Sources familiar with the matter told Axios that the US State Department sent initial invitations on Wednesday. Officials from the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries - Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman are expected to participate. The gathering could also be expanded to include other Arab and Muslim leaders.
