India, Aug. 30 -- Iran has issued a fresh flood warning for 6 provinces as a spell of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds threatens northern and northwestern parts of the country. Authorities have urged residents to avoid riverbeds, flood channels and unnecessary travel as the risk of flash floods rises.

The warning covers East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Ardabil and Gilan, along with the northern highlands of Kurdestan and Zanjan. Iran's crisis management authorities have placed emergency agencies on alert ahead of the expected severe weather.
