India, May 28 -- US forces again said they conducted a strike against a ground control station in Iran's mainland near the port city of Bandar Abbas, that resulted in soaring tensions between the two countries. US officials said the operation was a "defensive action" against drone attacks they had detected near the center port, which they said posed a threat to shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. The attack came on top of already-weak ceasefire claims in the region, raising concerns about a wider escalation. US said the action was intended to prevent attacks against shipping and other military installations in the Gulf region.
