India, June 19 -- The highly anticipated signing of a historic peace accord between the United States and Iran has been indefinitely delayed, casting a dark cloud over emergency diplomatic efforts in Switzerland. The impasse comes as the regional conflict takes a violent turn in southern Lebanon, where a surge in Israeli military operations has effectively neutralised the goodwill needed to cement the US-brokered agreement.

The breakdown in negotiations follows an explosive statement from Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who, in the wake of significant IDF casualties, declared that "all of Lebanon must burn" to secure Israel's northern frontier.
