India, April 22 -- Tensions in the Gulf region increased after Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces intercepted two cargo vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, including one ship travelling toward India.
Iranian authorities confirmed that their naval units stopped the vessels during routine monitoring operations in the busy shipping lane. One of the detained ships was reportedly heading to India's Gujarat coast, drawing attention due to its trade connection with the country.
Iran stated that the action was necessary to protect maritime safety and enforce navigation rules in one of the world's most important oil and trade routes.
