India, July 29 -- The United States Senate has moved a significant bill dealing with sanctions against Russia, which may affect many countries, particularly India. The bill sponsored by Senator Lindsey Graham seeks to exert more pressure on Russia in relation to the ongoing war with Ukraine. The bill received almost unanimous support during the vote on Tuesday, July 28, with an overwhelming majority of 86 votes in favour out of 98 voting Senators, coinciding with the visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy to Capitol Hill. If passed, this legislation would limit movements of Russian officials and enable the imposition of tariffs reaching 100% on countries whose economies still depend on Russian energy exports.
