India, July 24 -- The US has announced a 10% forced labour tariff on imports from India under Section 301 of the US Trade Act of 1974, adding a fresh challenge to the ongoing India-US trade discussions. Although India secured a lower tariff than the initially proposed 12.5%, the move is expected to increase costs for some exporters and could influence future trade negotiations between the two countries.
The tariff is part of a wider US action covering 60 economies that the US says have not taken adequate steps to prevent goods made using forced labour from entering global supply chains.
