University of Manchester Scandal: Investigation Launched After Shocking Claims of Sexual Harassment Against Female Med Students
India, June 2 -- The University of Manchester has launched a formal probe after more than 30 women filed reports of sexual harassment, intimidation, and verbal abuse within its School of Medical Sciences.
The move followed an open letter from students and pressure from the British Medical Association (BMA), which highlighted a "pervasive culture" of misogyny and misconduct that has allegedly plagued female medical students for at least three years. In the letter, Charlotte Buttercase, 24 said she has been subjected to repeated sexual harassment and intimidation. She is a student of medicine and has said that she believes that other women did no feel empowered to speak up.
