India, Sept. 21 -- A fresh air traffic control technical failure at the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) Prestwick centre in Scotland has triggered widespread flight delays and cancellations across Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Northern England. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander confirmed that the network connectivity issue has been fixed, but severe knock-on disruptions are expected to continue throughout the day as airlines reset their schedules.

NATS has explicitly stated that this incident is entirely unrelated to the major software glitch that occurred less than two weeks ago on 8 September, which caused over 2,000 cancellations.
