India, Sept. 7 -- A Home Office whistleblower has told The Times that only around one in a hundred asylum claims he assessed during his time working on the system were genuine, alleging that fraud and dysfunction run through nearly every stage of the process.

The official, referred to by the newspaper only as "J" to protect his identity, said: "At best 1 per cent of asylum seekers are genuine. There's almost no aspect of the asylum system that isn't either a massive fraud or just really dysfunctional. Nothing works as it should."
