India, Aug. 31 -- Hurricane Karina has officially rapidly intensified into a Category 3 major hurricane in the East Pacific, according to the latest updates from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The storm experienced an explosive burst of strength over open waters, jumping quickly from a Category 1 storm with 80 mph winds to a major hurricane boasting maximum sustained winds of 125 mph and a central pressure dropping to 955 millibars.
