India, Sept. 3 -- The Himalayan region faced another natural shock on Thursday as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Tibet, adding a fresh layer of concern while rescue teams continue to search for people missing after last week's devastating floods near the Nepal-China border. The tremor occurred at around 1:46 pm IST and was recorded at a depth of 14 kilometres, according to India's National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

The earthquake struck in a region already dealing with the consequences of a major glacier-related disaster. The August 26 incident sent a huge amount of ice, rock, mud and water into valleys across Nepal and Tibet, destroying homes and infrastructure and leaving thousands of people unaccounted for.
