India, Oct. 4 -- Last week, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) released data on finance and capital for the first quarter of Financial Year 2026-27. One line deserved more attention than it received in the daily news cycle: Japan became India's largest single source of Foreign Direct Investment. Japan contributed $5.71 billion of the aggregate $19.81 billion that came in between April and June. Public cooperation also advanced through Japanese yen loans worth JPY 275.858 billion for urban transport, healthcare and agriculture projects.
