India, Oct. 30 -- Congress Lok Sabha MP and former Union Minister Manish Tewari speaks of youth protests, unemployment, education reforms, parliamentary disruptions, delimitation and the functioning of democratic institutions.

Q. What is your take on the recent youth protests, and what needs to be done?

A: Let's rewind back to 12 or 13 years, when the lead-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha election started. The people who are in power now, the NDA-BJP alliance, actually promised, especially the young people of India, an aspirational agenda that was religion neutral and caste-neutral.

They promised to deliver a utopia, which, according to them, the UPA had failed to deliver. I do not agree with that assessment. But 1...
