India, Aug. 28 -- Ridley Scott's The Dog Stars arrives with all the ingredients of a familiar post-apocalyptic thriller. It includes a devastating pandemic, an abandoned world, desperate survivors, guns, violence and the constant threat of death. But beneath all that, the film is telling a quieter and more emotional story.

Based on Peter Heller's 2012 novel, The Dog Stars follows Hig, played by Jacob Elordi, a mechanic and pilot trying to survive nine years after a flu pandemic and blood disease wiped out most of humanity. Living at an abandoned airport in Colorado with his dog Jasper and former Marine Bangley, played by Josh Brolin, Hig has learned how to survive but he hasn't completely given up on living.
