India, June 19 -- The Delhi High Court has upheld the Central government's decision to temporarily ban the Russian messaging app Telegram in India ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination. While defending the government's decision, the high court stated that the measures were proportionate and necessary to protect the integrity of the examination process.

Justice Tejas Karia delivered the verdict on Friday and dismissed Telegram's challenge to the blocking, which is issued under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The court also observed that the government had adopted the least restrictive options available and that the order could not be considered disproportionate.
