Suvendu's mega Monday: To introduce UCC Bill in Assembly
India, June 28 -- Within weeks of being sworn in, and with the ink on the election results barely dry, the Suvendu Adhikari government will on Monday attempt something no West Bengal administration has done in recent memory: table three landmark pieces of legislation in a single session of the Assembly.
The Uniform Civil Code, a new statute to extern and detain "anti-social" elements, and an amendment to the existing public order law to extract financial damages from those who vandalize property during riots and protests-together, they constitute the BJP's opening legislative salvo in a state it has just wrested from decades of Left and Trinamool rule.
In the corridors of the Assembly, Monday has acquired a name: "Mega Monday".
