Spider Man Star J.K. Simmons Explains Why Being Called A 'Character Actor' Really Means You're 'Not Super Handsome'
India, July 5 -- J.K. Simmons has played everything from terrifying villains to lovable fathers, grumpy newspaper editors and strict music teachers. But despite a career filled with memorable roles, the Oscar-winning actor isn't too bothered by the labels people attach to him.
During a recent appearance on CBS Sunday Morning, the 71-year-old shared his amusing take on the term "character actor" and why he thinks people have started using it the wrong way.
Speaking to CBS News correspondent Tracy Smith, Simmons joked, "I mean, to me, that's always just been an actor who's, like, not super handsome."
While the comment got a laugh, Simmons also had a larger point to make about the way Hollywood categorises actors.
