India, Aug. 12 -- Representative Ralph Norman has advanced to South Carolina's Republican Senate primary runoff, according to US-based networks' projection, edging out fellow Congressman Russell Fry for the second qualifying spot and setting up a one-on-one contest against appointed Senator Darline Graham on 25 August.

The result confirmed what pre-election polling had widely anticipated in the compressed race to permanently fill the seat left vacant by the death of longtime Senator Lindsey Graham.

A survey conducted just days before the vote by Resonance Media Strategies found Graham and Norman positioned as the clear frontrunners in the field, with roughly a quarter of likely primary voters still undecided heading into Tuesday.
