India, March 25 -- In a major development with political impact in Assam, Singapore's State Coroner Adam Nakhoda has ruled that the death of legendary Assamese singer Zubeen Garg was due to "an unfortunate and tragic accidental drowning" with "no evidence of foul play."
The verdict, delivered after months of investigation, confirmed that the 52-year-old singer drowned off Lazarus Island on September 19, 2025. According to the findings, Garg had consumed alcohol and refused to wear a life vest while swimming from a yacht.
