India, July 23 -- The death toll in the NHPC Teesta Stage VI Hydropower Project tunnel collapse in Sikkim's Namchi district has risen to 22, officials confirmed on Thursday. Rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate the remaining three missing workers after the tunnel collapsed on Monday, reportedly following a methane gas explosion.

The accident took place on Monday afternoon at the under-construction NHPC Teesta Stage VI Hydropower Project in Namchi district.
