India, Oct. 1 -- Indian captain Shubman Gill scripted cricket history on Wednesday night by smashing an unbelievable 223 not out against West Indies in Guwahati.

Chasing an imposing 406-run target in the second ODI, Gill became only the second batter in international cricket history, after Rohit Sharma, to record more than one double century in 50-over cricket.

His monumental knock not only secured a historic eight-wicket win for India, but also reopened the record books on one of cricket's most exclusive clubs.

In the 55-year history of Men's One Day Internationals, only 10 batters have managed to breach the magical 200-run barrier across 13 distinct innings.
