India, Sept. 24 -- Indian equity markets came under pressure in early trading on Thursday, September 24, 2026, as a renewed jump in crude oil prices and higher US Treasury yields weighed on investor sentiment.

The BSE Sensex declined 632.68 points, or around 0.84%, to 74,189.55, while the NSE Nifty fell 216.15 points to 23,222.55.

Why Are Sensex And Nifty Falling Today?

The rise in crude prices emerged as a key concern for Indian markets. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, crossed the $100-per-barrel level and was quoted around $102.20, despite trading 0.90% lower at the time. Higher oil prices can increase India's import bill and put pressure on domestic inflation and corporate costs.
