India, July 16 -- Turkiye said Thursday it was ready to participate in a proposed Black Sea security mechanism that could form part of any eventual peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine, even as the Kremlin simultaneously told reporters that no immediate prospect existed for resuming the negotiations.

Ankara has long sought to broker talks between both warring sides, and its offer to mediate the landmark Black Sea initiative is being viewed as a double-edged diplomatic development that underscores both the depth of Turkiye's commitment to ending the war and the scale of the obstacles that still stand in the way.
