India, Aug. 27 -- Raksha Bandhan 2026 will be observed on Friday, August 28. The festival is celebrated on the full moon day, or Purnima Tithi, of the Hindu month of Shravan. On the occasion, sisters traditionally tie a Rakhi around their brothers' wrists and pray for their well-being and prosperity. Brothers, in turn, offer gifts and reaffirm their bond with their sisters.

According to the Drik Panchang, Shravan Purnima will begin at around 9:08 am on August 27 and end at approximately 9:48 am on August 28. Since Purnima Tithi prevails at sunrise on August 28, Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated on Friday, August 28, 2026.
