India, April 22 -- Peru's political uncertainty intensified after the country's top election officer resigned while vote counting from the April 12 presidential election continued to face delays. The resignation came at a time when public frustration had grown over slow results and rising allegations from several candidates.
Officials confirmed that Chief Election Officer Piero Corvetto resigned to restore public confidence before the upcoming presidential run-off scheduled in June. Authorities have still not declared the outcome of the first round, even nearly two weeks after voting took place.
