India, July 10 -- Palestine is preparing to hold its first legislative election in nearly 20 years after Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced that parliamentary polls will take place on November 28, 2026.

If conducted as scheduled, the election will allow Palestinians in Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to elect members of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) for the first time since 2006.

The announcement marks a major political development after years of institutional paralysis, but several challenges remain, including security concerns, governance issues and uncertainty over whether Hamas will be allowed to contest the vote.
