India, May 26 -- Today marks Padmini Ekadashi, one of the most auspicious dates on the Hindu calendar. This occasion is special as it only falls once in every three years.

Significance

In a regular year, the Hindu calendar features twenty-four ekadashis. But every three years, there is an extra twenty-fifth month called Adhik Maas. It is believed that observing Padmini Ekadashi leads to cleansing of sins from past lives and also moksha (liberation). The occasion is also mentioned in the Skanda Puranas, where Lord Krishna explains its significance to King Yudhishthira.
