India, June 28 -- The active Gold Mountain Fire is burning just north of the City of Ouray, prompting mandatory evacuations, road closures, and a full emergency response. The wildfire ignited on the evening of June 27, 2026, after high winds blew a tree onto a power line below Gold Mountain Ranch. It is spreading rapidly uphill in steep, rugged terrain under extreme fire conditions.

Mandatory Evacuations

The Ouray County Sheriff's Office has issued a mandatory Evacuation Order for the following areas:

Panoramic Heights

Lake Lenore area

Peck's Trailer Park

Red Stone Road area
