India, Sept. 17 -- Japanese shares moved higher on Thursday, with the Nikkei 225 gaining 0.52% and trading above the 64,200 mark. The broader Topix index also advanced around 1% to reach 4,100. The gains came despite the latest US Federal Reserve decision, while a weaker yen helped improve the outlook for Japanese companies that generate significant revenue from overseas markets.
Why Are Japanese Stocks Rising?
The decline in the yen against the US dollar supported export-oriented companies by improving the value of their overseas earnings when converted into the Japanese currency. Japanese equities also received support from softer oil prices. Lower crude prices could ease costs for an economy that relies heavily on energy imports.
