India, July 27 -- Benchmark Indian equity indices opened with strong gains on Monday, ending a five-day losing run as investor confidence improved following a sharp decline in crude oil prices after the United States and Iran paused hostilities. The BSE Sensex was up 568.91 points (0.75%) at 76,628.68, while the NSE Nifty50 climbed 149.85 points (0.63%) to 23,917.30.

The positive momentum was driven by a sharp drop in Brent crude, which fell below $93 per barrel after briefly crossing the $100 mark last week. Lower oil prices eased concerns over inflation, India's import costs and corporate earnings. Supporting the upbeat market sentiment, the Indian rupee also appreciated 0.4%, opening at 96.1475 against the US dollar.
