India, June 3 -- The Stanley Cup battle got underway in thrilling fashion as the Carolina Hurricanes hosted the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 in Raleigh, with the visitors edging a dramatic contest to strike first in the series.

Vegas came out on top with a 5-4 win in a game packed with end-to-end action and constant momentum swings. Tomas Hertl emerged as the difference-maker late on, helping the Golden Knights steal home-ice advantage after a tightly contested battle that stayed level at 4-4 deep into the closing stages. With just under four minutes remaining, Hertl broke free along the boards, outmuscled Shayne Gostisbehere, and drove toward goal to deliver the decisive moment in a high-pressure finish.
