India, Oct. 20 -- The Miami Dolphins officially released placekicker Riley Patterson on Tuesday afternoon following weeks of persistent kicking inconsistency.

The AFC East franchise made the abrupt special teams change after conducting an emergency kicker tryout in South Florida.

ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter broke the roster transaction as Miami moved to sign veteran specialist Zane Gonzalez.

The decision arrived immediately after the Dolphins hosted an audition that notably featured seven-time Pro Bowl kicker Justin Tucker.
