India, Aug. 20 -- New Zealand Cricket is tightening its belt after ending the latest financial year with a preliminary NZ$7.3 million deficit, a figure that is more than four times the loss it had originally expected. The shortfall has now led to changes around the domestic game, with only 24 of the 64 Super Smash matches set to be broadcast during the upcoming season, according to the reports of RNZ Sports.

The latest figures have raised questions about the financial health of New Zealand cricket, but NZ Cricket chief executive Geoff Allott has insisted that the game remains in a strong position. The organisation is also expecting a major financial improvement next year, helped by India's tour of New Zealand.
