India, Aug. 12 -- New York City Solar Eclipse Today: New York City will get a chance to watch the August 12, 2026 solar eclipse, but skywatchers should not expect the dramatic darkness seen during a total eclipse.

The Moon will cover only about 9% of the Sun at the peak in New York City, making it a partial solar eclipse from the city. The eclipse will begin at 1:07 p.m. EDT, reach its maximum at 1:54 p.m. and end at 2:38 p.m. EDT.

The global event will be a total solar eclipse, but its path of totality will pass through Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, the Atlantic Ocean, Spain and a small part of Portugal. New York City sits outside that path.
