India, Sept. 1 -- North and South Carolina have emerged as the epicentres of residential development in the US, capturing a dominant share of the nation's top markets for newly built housing. According to the second annual Top Metros for New Construction report released by Realtor.com, six of the top ten metropolitan areas for purchasing a newly built home are located within the Carolinas.

Driven by permissive zoning regulations, less restrictive building codes, and more accessible land, these Southern markets are successfully expanding housing inventory while offering competitive pricing that often undercuts existing homes.
